Wow, you stirred up a mass of memories. Beautifully written. FYI - I remember watching the annual coverage of Colonial's pilgrims on the 10 p.m. news. As a little kid, I thought that had to be the coolest church ever. To this day, I love pickled herring. We joke that it's "Swedish sushi."
