My Blog Has Moved
Dear Readers,
After a year with Beliefnet, I've decided to move to my own domain for my blogging. It's been a fine year -- some things worked, other things didn't. But in the end, I'll be a better blogger on my own. My thanks to the Bnet editorial staff; they've been very supportive.

Ending Christian Euphemisms: "Fundamentalist"
I've taken some heat in the comment section for using yesterday's post on "unbiblical" and a "higher view of scripture" as a thin foil for my own disregard of biblical standards. To the contrary, I was pointing to the use of the word unbiblical as a stand-in for a particularly thin hermeneutic. Ther

Why You Should Get GENERATE
Last week at Christianity21, GENERATE Magazine debuted. With the tag line, "an artifact of the emergence conversation," it fit perfectly at the gathering. When I actually got around to reading it last weekend, I was truly surprised at how good it is.There have been several efforts to begin a paper j

“Oh! Oh! Syncretism! Syncretism! Mandalas are un-Christian! Oh! Oh! Graven images! Graven images! Idolatry! Bad! Bad! My eyes are bleeding! Sinner! Apostate! Of the devil! Not a Real Christian[tm]! Anathema!”
Just supplying the missing knee-jerk hysterical Offended Kristian response.;-)
It’s actually very beautiful and worth meditating upon. Thank you.

There are a couple of things I enjoy about this picture. The first is the way it nuances the tradition of using the mandala to meditate on the significance of wholeness with the reality of Christ. Unlike most mandalas, this one is broken. But Christ’s resurrected body is bringing wholeness to the once whole, once broken, now in-the-process-of-being-restored circle of existence.
The other thing I appreciate is that the way the mandala associates this wholeness of life to the entire story of Christ, and not just his death. The mystery of the wholeness of Christ is hidden in the entire organic network of Jesus’ life.
Thanks for passing this along.

i think this is absolutely beautiful….. i am a quilter and have always wanted to make a quilt depicting the entire life of Christ…. i think this mandala does a terrific job of doing this…… i’d love to have a copy of this to hang in my home….. and i think it would make a beautiful quilt…..

According to this MARVELOUS mandala, Christ’s work on Earth is NOT done. The “break” in this mandala supercedes all else that is on it. I must admit I had a hard time finding the “birth” of Jesus – but just went from the Resurrection clockwise – and found it!! Thank you for sharing; I had quite a meditation just looking at it.

I’m a born again spirit filled Christian with no “religious background” whom Jesus saved out of Wicca – white witchcraft and I’ve avoided all things that smack of the demonic. I’m taking an art class and one of the assignments is to do a mandalla which I see as pagan. I’m listening for the voice of the Lord to lead me in what I should create if anything in this class. Any scriptual wisdom would be much welcomed.
