Believe it or not, I do have an opinion on the matter. But you'll have to read Jason Boyett's piece on The Daily Beast to find out what it is.

I didn't see much music while at Cornerstone last week. Occasionally I could hear, or feel, the thumping of a bass while I was giving a talk. Someone told me that there were about 500 bands there, which is an amazing number, to be sure. So it's probably a shame that I didn't see more than I did. But, the fact is, I have a strong aversion to Christian music in general, so I didn't have a great interest to begin with.
For the rest of the week, I'm going to look back on my experience of the legendary Cornerstone Festival. In the meantime, iMonk, who moderated that panel, has posted about it.Forgive MeGive us the passion in our soulsTo fix the world and call it homeAnd not give in to pious liesOf gospels cleverly disguisedAs hope when they will offer noneBut disconnected salvationThat doesn't ever fix a thingBut salves our egos as we singForgive me oh lordPlease let me be the one to sit by your side tonightLet them see such hope as thisTo love when betrayed with a kissTo offer Rescue to a worldThat has no reason left to trustThe Church as we've perverted herWith lust for power, so quick to hurtThe ones that we are here to serveForgive us we were meant to love
ever heard of as the official band of emergent Christianity. An indictment of the American religious condition and Western culture that is only saved through personal responsibility for the needed changes based in community and hope for the future sounds like a Christian movement I want to be a part of. In fact, it sounds like a Christian movement I am part of. And that is why consider Arcade Fire the official band of Emergent.
