Zen teachers back in the 13th Century, for example, probably only had to face running out of ink for their writing brushes … while now we must ‘sit with’ the Koan of JAVA script and browser conflicts.
But the wonderful thing, truly, that Zen offers to all of us is this:Accept that computers, just like all of life, will not do what we wish all(or most) of the time. Go with the flow. Allow the computer to crashendless times … for it is all a perfect moment in time. “Be at one” with slowness and freezing … for a slow boot-up is an excellent opportunity for a moment of patient Zazen. Accept program conflicts as “just-what-they-are” and allow them to be! Remember that the “Blue Screen of Death” is beyondall thought of “life” and “death” … and that rebooting is a kind ofrebirth.
A monk asked Master JÅshÅ«, “Does a hard drive have Buddha nature”??
But, in any event, ‘Ustream’ (the video system I have been using until today) seems to present some conflicts with ‘FLASH’ and certain browsers that results in crashing. To solve the problem, I will now try to experiment with switching to YouTube (which seems more glitch free). I will still use Ustream for certain special events (like our longer ‘LIVE’ Saturday sittings and monthly Zazenkai) because it has certain advantages.
One issue with YouTube, however, for those folks ‘sitting-a-long‘ is that there is a 10 minute time limit. That means that, from now on, WE CAN START ZAZEN TOGETHER, and I will ring the beginning bells … BUT YOU MUST KEEP TRACK OF YOUR SITTING TIME, and ring the ending bells yourself. Truly, Zazen is endless anyway!
Let’s see if this works a bit better for most folks, and I apologize for any crashing if we need to use Ustream sometimes.

Hello, Jundo-Roshi.
I am pleased that you are moving away from ustream (despite the opportunities it has provided for cultivation of patience). I agree the 10 minute limit on YouTube poses some issues. Have you considered Google video? It would seem that there is no limit on length of content with their service. Granted, I have only taken a cursory glance at their terms of service. Might be worth looking into, though.
Looking forward to more.

Hello, Jundo-Roshi.
I am pleased to see you are moving away from ustream (despite the opportunities it has presented to cultivate patience), as I have had nothing but problems lately viewing the sit-a-longs. I do agree, however, that the 10-minute limit on YouTube presents some issues.
I just googled “free video hosting” and, ironically, came up with Google Video as an option. It would appear, upon a cursory glance at their terms of service, that there is no time-limit on videos posted there. Perhaps they would be an option worth looking into.
Hope this helps. Congrats on coming to Beliefnet. I, for one, think it is an excellent move. Looking forward to more.

Hi Leland,
Please just call me “Jundo”. The “Roshi” is my dad.
I don’t want to go into details, but Google does not offer the kind of interface necessary for the type of “blogcast” we have here. So, Google is no go.

Dear Jundo,
Just a thought….
How about using video for your introductory comments, this could then be paused on your direction and followed by a separate ‘podcast’ recording of a starting and finishing bell timer. Then the practitioner could resume the video for any concluding comments.

Yes! I can watch the U-tube on my phone.
Glad for the upgrade!
Now we just need to get you in the habit of posting your sit-a-long talks to itunes and you will be up to speed.

I honestly think the 10 min video is preferable. While I sit I can here the hiss of the microphone coming from my computers speakers while Iwait for the final bell. I dont really think its necessary to video 20 plus mins of you just sitting there. IMO.
