Today began with rain in Barcelona. And continued. And kept going. And still kept falling, even after we had decided it was tapering off, then emerged from the subway station into the midst of umbrella-sellers (I cannot possibly reproduce with...

Try asking locals where the churches are. We found many lovely ones a block or two off Las Ramblas. Also, a walk on the waterfront was lovely and I know there is an old fort nearby. We saw it from the ship as we were leaving.....

Armstrong was in the peloton (the main group), where he has been riding the last few days. Generally, everyone in the group gets credited for the same time, so he is still a fraction of a second behind the leader (who wears the yellow jersey). Expect him to make a move in the mountains.

Apparently there were a lot of slips and falls in the rain, the white portions of the roadway being extra slippery.

Catherine's old fort is probably the castle atop Mont Juic.

Take the Bus Turistic around Barca. Can't be beat for sight-seeing, especially Gaudí buildings, then deciding what ELSE to go see. The Sagrada Familia church is an indescribable must. We were able to climb stairs up to the church tower(s) back in '92.

And since you asked, from www.bcn.cat: "Everyone is invited to welcome the [Tour de France] riders by forming part of the giant yellow wave that will accompany them for the final 13 kilometres of today's stage."

Disfruten su visita!

You probably already know but la Sagrada Familia, designed by Gaudi, is a must. It's unfinished so there is no cult. If you want a Mass schedule you better visit www.misas.org and look for barcelona or the places you are going to visit, it has almost all the Masses and parishes in Spain.

In addition to the Sagrada Familia, the Gaudi park (Guell) is good, but a long hike up to the top of the hill. From the subway stop we used we climbed and used an outdoors escalator. My boys also liked just hanging out at the waterfront, throwing bread to the fish, watching boats.

The red and white polka dot hats signify the "King of the Mountains" jersey, awarded to the cyclist with the most points accumulated climbing mountains. Its design is taken from the chocolate bar wrapper of the first sponsor.
