Souvenir

I broke down and bought one, not at Mount Etna, but at one of the souvenir stalls outside the Archaelogical Park in Siracusa:

I have to admit, seen alone, when not lined up in the midst of dozens of other similarly-glittered-up figures (except for the elephant, glimpsed in the back), the tackiness factor seems to recede. I can't imagine the same thing would happen in regard to the crucified Jesus with the glittery loincloth, but you never know. Stranger things have happened.

Well, maybe not.

A good souvenir should capture the spirt of the place visited and bring back great memories. Ideally it should not look like something that could have been acquired in any airport gift stand.

Looks like a winner on those counts...

have a safe trip south

Hard to believe but I have this same statuette in powder blue glitter (the color choices surprised me -- red, blue green...) from my trip to Italy in 2006. Funny to see it again on your blog!

Hey, Amy, could you post links to the places you stayed during your trip? A couple of them looked particularly interesting so I'd like to keep them on file for future travel. Thanks!
