Jerusalem: A Matter of Perspective

Wednesday September 19, 2007

Categories: Jewish Holidays

As American Jews prepare once again to pray, “next year in Jerusalem,” on Yom Kippur, they should know that plans are being made to prevent that from taking place. For better or for worse, if it were up to Ehud Olmert we might be switching our prayers from "next year in Jerusalem," to "next year in half of Jerusalem."

According to the JTA, Haim Ramon, Olmert’s top secretary, has devised a peace plan that would cede to the Palestinian Authority a good chunk of Jerusalem. Ahh... and I remember when Olmert swore over his dead body he would never give up an inch of Jerusalem. Its interesting how someone who swore he would never divide Jerusalem is now making plans to give it up to the PA. Olmert’s about face is just one more indicator of the truth of Ariel Sharon’s adage explaining his own about face once he became prime minster, “You see things from here that you don't see from there."

some people can be trusted others can not.

it is that simple. unfortunatly if you give Jerusalem even partly back to the Arabs they will still want all of it so why bother?
also anytime a Arab leader expressed sympathy with Israel they were soon eliminated.

anyone who gives them anything will be disapointed.

the status quo with Jersualem must be maintained.

Olmert is up for re-election sometime soon, and I've heard that Netanyahu is a candidate. Not to worry, the city will not be partitioned...
shalom to you all!

All of Jerusalem and all of Israel belongs by Divine decree to the people of Israel, the sons of Jacob. No lasting peace will ever be obtained by forsaking this holy land.

The true leaders of The Land must stand up and refuse to give up and give in to to this pressure which only wants to destroy us.

As a fervent supporter of 'truth' over partisanship I feel it very odd to use the expression 'land for peace'. In reality, all six billion plus of us live on only a small fraction of the Earth's crowded surface. Why oh why can't we understand, as was expressed in a previous response to this blog, that it really is all about 'us' not me and mine. We are all related in truth, and what happens to 'the other' also happens to me now. Perhaps some of the Native American Elders had it right when they said that no one ever own's the land. It owns you.
I know the problems are complex, and I don't want to make light of them, but somehow any hope of peace must be found in our similarities, rather than our differences.
The ironic thing may be that in the future, (with the dieing of the earth as we know it) survival may mean working together just to live. Other issues may pale compared to that.

How can any Israeli leader trust the Muslims that have never kept their side of any agreement. The only thing Israel has ever gotten is more rockets fired at Israelis.
How can anyone Jew or Gentile consider surrendering the city of G-D
G-D WILL bless those who pray for Jerusalem and one can know that those who divide Jerusalem can expect G-D'S DISPLEASURE. Which does Olmert and those who agree with him want ?
