Thanks for the info! I’ve had a few people actually look at me as though I am crazy …. making up the story!!!! So, now I have these articles as proof. What I’d like to know is …… did my watermelon come from China … or are the American farmers using that same product? Who can we trust anymore? I’m almost beginning to believe that we should eat manufactured foods (soilent greenish — without the people parts). Just think …. if we mixed up a drink with pure water and vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins — or a block of the same sort of thing in the form of a Health Bar —- we wouldn’t have to worry about the illnesses, diseases, toxins, etc. And, we’d get out of cooking!!!! Sadly, that might be our future!

Another thing …… it’s a proven fact that the immigrants from third world countries do not practice the safety/clean hands/bathroom visits, etc. that American’s do. They don’t care about cleanliness as much, and I’m sure that they forego the rubber gloves and hair nets, etc. Most of these places that put out “toxic” foods are noted for hiring a lot of illegals. I remember seeing a report on television (years and years ago) — it was similar to Dateline or 20/20. They were saying that our country goes to great lengths to ban certain insecticides and provide the citizenry with healthy, clean, non-toxic foods. So, they took their hidden cameras and sneaked across the border and showed the workers in the tomato fields (Mexico) taking a bathroom break … right in the fields of food! Then it showed the small planes buzzing across the fields and dropping the banned insecticides! The point that they were making was …. we should buy all our food from this country!
Did you ever hear about that story of the “exploding” watermelon? Well, I had one …. it exploded right on my kitchen countertop. I didn’t think much of it … I figured that I dumbly chose an overripe melon. Then, my daughter tells me that the same thing happened to her! We were comparing our stories of how horrid it was to clean up all the dripping, sticky mess. Then I saw an email about it …. and they were saying that they were watermelons from China. They were genetically modified in some way, and they never expected that they’d end up exploding like that! Our government no longer cares about it’s citizens and neither do the businesses … it’s like falling dominoes!

I wondered about the exploding watermelons so I checked it it. Turns out there a pages of references to this phenomena happening in China! From out of the country, here’s a link to Exploding Watermelons story — http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13421374 — from the AP wire: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/05/17/chinas-exploding-watermelons-caused-chemical/ — and for those who don’t trust Fox news, here’s MSNBC – http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43057267/ns/world_news-weird_news/t/exploding-watermelons-acres-crops-erupt/
