Bush may not be evil, but he was incredibly stupid to involve the U.S. in a deadend, no victory war in Iraq. Not only has it cost the lives of thousands of Americans and over a hundred thousand Iraqis, but it also has kept us and the rest of the world from facing the real threat in the region -- Iran.
No American president, either Obama (please God may it be so) or McCain will ever be able to use military force against Iran, precisely because of our experience in Iraq.
But the Persians are an ancient and intelligent people, Ahjadinejad nothwithstanding. They realize that use of nuclear weapons against the West will reduce their country to a pile of sand. Even if they get the nuclear saber, they'll likely rattle it, but never use it.
You make a good point, but undermine it in the last paragraph where your description of Ahmedinejad sounds suspiciously like our President.
President Ahmadinejad is no Hitler. If you listen to him, you will find that he is not a madman either. Everything he says that is critical of the US or Israel is blown out of proportion, and everything he says that makes sense and suggests cooperation and a way to find peace is dismissed as hypocrisy, propaganda, and lies. At some point, the bias must become evident. He has not called for attacks against Israel, but has predicted its collapse. He has not denied the holocaust, but has condemned its use to support Zionism and has questioned the historical accuracy of the standard accounts. It seems to me that the comparison by the protester of the two presidents is unfair to the Iranian president.
if one finds the substitute for oil and substitute for religion and god them the bush and Ahmadinejad will have no work. peace will automatically established.
It seems to me the statements "It would be helpful if Governor Palin..." and "...it makes me sick when Voice of America..." represents the same kind of spirit as this column speaks against. This kind of bias in reaction to extreme statements on both sides simply fans the flames of the conflict. If Ahmadinejad is not Hitler, and George Bush is not Hitler, then anyone calling either of them by that name should be equally reprimanded. One "sin" is not worse than the other.
you need not take the Hitler thing that seriously-now means EVIL.
Things occur like that-for example everytime there is a problem in politics somebody decides to use the term-gate at the end since the Watergate breakins.
Example-Palin's problem in Alaska is be reffered to as TROOPERGATE.
However if you are looking for a reason to write an article the nasty guy with the power in Iran is just as good a topic as any.
Yeah he is nasty etc. So how long before we decide to take all the money we are spending on Iraq-agree with it or not-and Affghanastan-agree with it or not-and figure with the bad economy and heading for a depression that the way to get people to try and earn money will now be spent on a war with Iran-agree with it or not! The lack of money in the whole world may help start the war. Will mean that in the US we wont have to bring our boys and girls home to do it because they will get so many-they think-volunteers who need money and are willing to put their lives on the line for pay!
Bets anyone?
sigh.....................!
Hugs
Laura
i do not beleive that the zionists speak for the jewish state any more than the jewish defense league attacking full mosqus of muslims praying in the middle east is correct. like jihadism is not condoned
by true muslims, catholicism has been uinder attack by american left wing christians. just listen to dan browns statements on the secret love affair of jesus and mary magdalenna . the truth of the matter is that two many minds have been taken over by extremists like many christians it he deep south. radicalism, no matter whether jewish, islamic or zionist do more a disservice than good to all love and ploving people all aver the world.
Ahmadinejad is nothing short of evil. I suggest Rabbi that you use your sword (your pen) to throw stones at him rather than some signs from people who not only recognize him as such, but whose very lives are in possible danger from a country so swayed by the rantings of an intelligent, but extremely dangerous enemy of Israel and the U.S. I also find reprehensible Larry Kings allowing him a format on prime time which reaches millions of Americans. His questions to Ahmadinejad about his family and children were those you ask of a G-d loving human being not a tyrant. I switched channels as I could not listen to either of them. CNN should have put the kabosh on such programming.
He may not BE Hitler at the moment BUT HE WANTS TO BE in the future.
Mr Hirschfield : While oppugning those who compare him to Hitler, you claim that the ‘most dangerous thing about Ahmadinejad is his fanaticism, his inability to see any way other than his own, or any facts which don't affirm that which he already believes.’ Well it seems to me that this description is aptly applicable to either of them. Maybe you should soften your attack by seeing it their way, at least a little. Aufwiederlesen.
Ahmadinejad is Not Hitler, But He's Not George Bush Either
What a sophomoric headline. Rabbi, your bias is quite transparent, not only in your headline, but your call for Governor Palin's remarks. Why not ask for Senator Clinton's in the same sentence?
Were I on the Ritual Committee of a congregation contemplating you as a potential spiritual leader, you definitely would not get my vote. I find your abuse of this "digital pulpit" to be particularly offensive. While we in the United States are entitled to our opinions, thanks to the Bill of Rights, I personally prefer you confine your postings here to matters of faith. You might want to consider a different venue as an outlet for your brand of politics.
I may not be the only reader of your Beliefnet blog who feels this way.
Dear Al Eastman,
So the good rabbi offends you. Thank G-d, someone else finds him as obnoxious as I do.
i think that the world has gone ""political correct stupid""
we have enough jane fondas and chamberlains in the world ,, were are the real men who are willing to make the hard dicisions .. we should make an example of one of these terriost countrys ,for it is that kind of action that will break the back of their intent ...it is that type of action that they understand..they see america as a weak country now, this is why they behave so..israel is not weak and they know it the us should let israel do what needs to be done and be done with it ,lets rally around israel for our sake for our childrens sake for g'ds sake..
OBAMA IS NOT OSAMA BUT ONE IS A HITLER FANATIC LIKE AHMADINEJAD...It makes me sick when a so called Rabbi compares a so called Iranian President to our Honorable American President on the world wide web, all the while pretending not to use them in the same vain. Oh by the way, good Rabbi, teacher...if the cold war of words that the Hitler fanatic and apologist "Iranian President" were to ever turn into a hot war between the U.S. and Iran, during a McCain/Palin administration, God would know just who is 100% to blame for "instigating" such a "necessary" war. So, what in the H. E. double hockey sticks is wrong with you good Rabbi that you do not already know that nothing compares to AHMADINEJAD SAYS THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF HITLER HAD WON WORLD WAR II AND FINISHED THE FINAL SOLUTION, PRAISES OSAMA BIN LADEN! Nothing compares to being a liberal, for it means you never have to say you are sorry for making a Bush supporter sick. One might suggest with the greatest unease is that the most dangerous thing about Ahmadinejad's fanaticism is that the so called Iranian President has nothing to fear from the likes of an Obama presidency and his American Idol fanatics like the good Rabbi...Pray to end useful idiots right to suffrage.
Rabbi,
I must agree with the previous posts. The only difference between Hitler and Ahmadinejad, is that the Iranian does not yet have absolute control of his own country. If he ever gets consolidated anopposed power you can believe he will endeavor to do exactly what he said, destroy Israel and complete the final solution.
His fighht to make Iran nuclear is not to keep America from attacking, it is so that in time they will have the weaponry to destroy Israel amd in time the west. How is this different than Hitler?
He would be if he could be, and he will be when he can be! He has made that clear.
Moma,
People should have to take a sanity test before they post.
EG,
May I suggest a politeness test also?
And as I reminder to those who think the best way to prove their point is to cast aspersions on those with who they differ, here is one of the "Rules of Conduct" for this forum/blog.
9.Courtesy: You agree that you will be courteous to others, even when disagreeing, and even to those whose beliefs you think are false or objectionable. When debating, express your opinion about a person's ideas, not about them personally. Do not make negative personal remarks about another's age, disability, gender, ethnicity, race, nationality, sexual orientation, intelligence, character, appearance,
Okay Al,
I was not going to respond to you earlier and would never follow the advice of those who encouraged me to take down your previous comment. Why? because I geuniunely believe in the free exchange of ideas. But your lack of self-awareness is astounding! It is one of those faith/spiritual issues which you asked me to address.
You call me "abusive" and "sophomoric", but lecture others on courtesy? Come now! You can pick on me all you want. I can take it. In fact, I genuinley respect you for not only reading Windows & Doors despite how much I annoy you, but for contributing to the conversation also. But I hope that you will take it easy on others and ask yourself if you are living up to the appropriately high standard which you demand of others as well.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy New Year
Ahmadinejad is a truly elected president in Iran and what he says is that innocent people nowhere in the world should be killed in the name of democracy or a jewish state. All human beings have the right to a decent life, regardless of colour, caste and creed. Why should innocent children in Gaza starve to death and be killed in the name of jewish state and whoever says a word against it is a "Hitler". I think the crimes committed by the state of Israel are no less than Hitler . Continous crime for 60 years on a people, displacement, murder and now, not keeping them under seige for electing the government of their choice is not very unhitlerish. I think people in glass houses should not throw stones. zz
Not even 6000,000 Arabs have been killed in Israel in their state of war against the Jewish people. That's a far cry from 6,000,000.
Be real. We know what the Arabs would do to the Jews if they got their hands on them. 15,000,000 people wouldn't last a week.
I guy like ahmadinejah shoul not came in America he was here to insult the americains and the jews he should stay in Iran, take care of his people and live the jewishs live their live they have enought with all the arabes that all over. shame on ahmadinejah.
