Israelis for Obama and Lessons for McCain

This You Tube video, entitled Israelis for Obama is amazing. It does not provide a great deal of new information about his policies, which are not all that different from McCain's when it comes to Israel. It does something far...

Yeah, but let's be blunt, because we do not have an obligation to be even handed. The Republicans stopped making these kinds of statements a long time ago, and you can try to be as fair minded as you want, but this candidate is unlikely to change that. Eight years ago, maybe.

Basically, Obama is committed to an Israel that is so many things...but not a Jewish state.

Neriah, Obama may not understand what a Jewish state is as he is not Jewish! To me that does not matter. How he sees Israel is how he sees it. What is important is that he allows America to still remain Israel's supporter in the Middle East and I think that will happen.
President Bush'es road map for Israel, and peace in the Middle East was not very pro-Israel in my opinion. President's can't please all the people all the time and do the best that needs to be done. The most we can expect in support of our beloved homeland is that the U.S. stands with us against attacks, if not with action at least with verbal support, and so far that has happened.

And lets not forget the U.S. sends a lot of dollars to Israel and we cooperate on a lot of different levels.

Several weeks ago when addressing an Israeli audience, Obama articulated his commitment to an undivided Jerusalem. The next day when speaking to a Palestinian audience he changed his position.
This same behavior occurred in an episode with the Canadian government several months ago.

Obama at his core is insensitive to Jewish issues, and the existential threat to Israel from Iran. Clearly he is pandering to the Jewish community.

It is hard to imagine the likes of a Putin or Ahmadenijad taking Obama seriously. The world is a dangerous place, and the stakes are far too high for a rookie to be in the White House.

This is an important election and should be far more than a popularity contest. I urge all to cast their vote with factual knowledge about each candidate. The so-called mainstream media has not vetted nor reported much about Obama. Much has been omitted.

For more information and insights about Barack Obama and his background, consider reading THE CASE AGAINST BARACK OBAMA; or OBAMA NATION; or THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK. All are available from Amazon. All are well researched and documented.

Obama has been and always shall be a muslim, even through he has converted to a very questionable "christian black theology" which if you look it up is very anti-semetic and anti-Israel. Wake up!! Israel and the USA are/is in danger.

Why would Obama say that he has visited all 57 states, when there are only 50 states in America? During a interview he let slip that "His muslim faith", granted this was quicky corrected by the interviewer.

Dear Rabbi,

We are Americans...........Obama appeals more to Europeans...liberal, socialist and anti-american. We need a president that keeps this country strong...not one that can be made weak by disappearing into the soup of world socialism.

Rabbi-

The Israel that I pray for is also "pluralist, sophisticated, multi-lingual, racially-ethnically diverse, artistically accomplished, militarily powerful, and committed to peace." I have posted several blurbs on this sight that say as much. I visited Israel, for the first time, this summer. I was thrilled to be in a Jewish enviromnent, a beautiful homeland, and welcoming people. Allow me to add my opinions.

1. Pluralist. Multi-lingual. Racially-ethnically diverse. Israel does not welcome everyone. It does not want the Palestinians; it does not want the Filipino workers it imports to remain. The "pluralistic" nature of Israel includes harmless Bedoins, Christian Druz, and its (seemingly) impoverished Arab enclaves. Israel welcomes all Jews because it was envisioned as a homeland and refuge for Jews. It was founded as a JEWISH state. And this brings me to the very painful reality to consider for Israel's future: IT CANNOT BE TRULY PLURALISTIC (AND DEMOCRATIC)IF IT REMAINS A STRICTLY JEWISH STATE. Yet, that is its very raizon d'etre. I noticed most signs were written in HEBREW, ENGLISH, ARABIC, and RUSSIAN, so Isradl recognizes that many diverse peoples live there for a variety of reasons. If Israel were pluralistic, it would have to egree to the probability that Jews would be a minority. It is not yet ready to "go there."

2. Artistically accomplished. And accomplished in a great number of additional ways! Israel is capital of the high tech industries, of the highest number of Nobel Prize winners. And of course, the music of people such as the Berenboim family. No problem.

3. Militarialy powerful. Let us pray that Israel continues to keep the cutting edge on defense and intelligence gathering. It is surrounded by 22 enemy states. Sadly, what makes the news are photos of the Isreli army in the West Bank buldozing Palestinian homes. I am not so naieve as to believe that this is not done without reason, but perhaps it needs to be done with greater humanity??? Or expanation??'

4. Committed to peace. Peace will NEVER come without a just end to the Palestinian problem. There are so many reasons why we might believe that this can never happen: Palestinians want the right of return and/or compensation for their homes and villages that were taken in 1948 and 1967. That is imposible to grant. And a tw-state solutions? A Palestinian country with the pathetic jigsaw that remains of the West Bank and Gaza, with Israeli settlements firmly established and roads and walls blocking Palestinian travel, is a ludicrous thought. Jewish settlements house thousands of families, provide thousands of jobs, are thriving cultural centers, and are connected by a network of tightly-controlled highways. Jews, of course, were evicted from Syria, Iran, and other Arab countries, lost everything, and were not compensated, but, unfortunately, that will just not be accepted as an argument. Palestinians will not leave to resettle in other Arab countries such as Jordan or Lebanon; they are, basically, not wanted! I don't know the answer. No one does. But I know that without peace with the Palestinians, Israel will always bleed.

I pray, feverently, that all of the good visions and hopes for Israel come to pass. I also know that Obama, or any United States President, cannot achieve those goals. It is up to Israel to decide on a Democratic vision of herself, and up to the Palestinians to recognize the reality that they are far better off with Israel as a friend than an enemy.

Obama is not the problem. The Democrats in general are the problem. In their hatred of Bush, they've become True Believers with a secular theology as narrow minded and bigoted at the right wing's dogmatic religiosity. Jewish leaders in the Democratic Party gave no public support to Israel during the recent wars with Hamas and Hezbollah. Their collective silence emboldened Iran as the mullahs knew that the Democrats so hated Geo Bush that they would do anything to see him fail even if that meant hog tying his hands to assist Israel. Great Britain deletes the Holocaust from its text books so as not to offend Muslims and the Left Wing does what? Nothing, absolutely nothing! Does the Great Jimmy cater put aside his anti-Semitism to speak up for liberty, truth, and academic freedom?

These same secular zealots may have cost Obama the election by insisting that he announce the conclusions from his visit to Iraq before he left and by demanding that he deny the success of the Surge after he returned. These irrational demands are on par with the ring wing demand to teach Creationism in schools.

I have been following your various commentaries and what I gather from your comments is that first and foremost you are very passionate about your feelings and that you obviously have had the misfortune of being in the company of some anti-semetic "Christians" and I put that title in quotes only because true Christians of which I have known for the 23 years that I have been a believer love and admire the Jewish people, for without the lineage of Abraham through David, our saviour would not have been born, who was Himself Jewish and taught in the synagogues. Why in the world would true Christians dislike or have any hatred towards a faith that brought us Yeshua our Messiah?
I have also noticed much disdain and venom when addressing other peoples comments that differ from you,and yet the Christians that have a running commentary with you show much love, which is what Elohim is all about. Please tell me what or who has caused you such distress.

In His Love,

The posting below is a rebuttal to all of you who want Obama to win (including left wing Israeli's-thank g-d there's only a few-Obama was demonstrated against by a huge contingent of Israeli's, secular & religious-during the primariesw which the liberal media did not carry)

"Iran, the UN, and More" According to a story in The Guardian (UK) late this past week, European sources who claimed to have been in touch with Olmert said that Olmert raised the issue of an Israeli strike on Iran with President Bush when he visited here for our 60th celebrations in May. And Bush was opposed. His fears, reportedly, were that there would be repercussions on the US and possibly the ignition of a war. As we would have to fly over Iraqi airspace controlled by the US, it would be difficult for us to accomplish this mission without at least tacit US approval. Olmert's spokesman has since denied this story, which tells us nothing, actually. ~~~~~~~~~~ Whatever the truth of this particular story, I'm picking up multiple reports about European unease about an Israeli strike on Iran as well. There seems a growing resignation of the fact that Iran will go nuclear. ~~~~~~~~~~ Put simply, this is not acceptable from an Israeli perspective. Not when a maniac in Iran is speaking forthrightly about destroying the Jewish State. The prospect, however, should not be of concern only to us: It will impinge upon Europe and upset the balance of power in the Middle East in significant ways. But the irony is that if we move against Iran, it is Israel and only Israel that will take heat internationally. If a military operation is to be avoided, other means of stopping Iran have to be utilized. Face to face diplomacy won't do it, nor will "deals." Serious sanctions of a sort that has not yet been applied must be put into place -- foremost here, the blocking of all refined oil into the country, which would cause an internal collapse. Such sanctions will not come from the UN, as Russia has declared unwillingness to support further Security Council sanctions. Action must come -- swiftly and decisively -- from the US and the EU. ~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. Joel Fishman, fellow with the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, has written a piece in Front Page Magazine called "Seventy Years Since the Munich Agreement," which echoes so much for us today in what we are confronting. Fishman quotes historian Martin Gilbert who wrote that:"Appeasement was rooted in the belief that human nature could not be entirely overwhelmed by evil, that even the most dangerous looking situation could be ameliorated and that the most irascible politician could be placated, if treated with respect."
This speaks to the heart of the debate (reflected, literally, in the debate between McCain and Obama) on whether dialogue with Iran would be constructive. It is a reflection of the difference in worldview between the liberal and the conservative: the issue of whether there is consummate evil in the world or whether we are, in our essence, all alike. ~~~~~~~~~~ As to this last, allow me to cite Steven Stalinsky, executive director of MEMRI, writing in National Review, who tells us that in a battle in 636, the commander of the Muslim forces, one Khalid ibn Al-Walid, sent a emissary to the commander of the Persian troops he was soon to confront. His message: "...you should know that I have come to you with an army of men that love death, as you love life." Stalinsky says this account is recited in Muslim sermons, newspapers, and textbooks today. And indeed, those of us who follow the words of our enemies have seen the refrain many times -- repeated by leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah: "We will win because, just as our enemies love life, we love death." The recognition that there are people who truly think this way chills to the bone. Especially as we Jews are commanded from the Torah to "choose life." ~~~~~~~~~~ But if this thinking is embraced by leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah, how much more so by the leaders of Iran. It is what makes them so terrifying. And I am frightened because I don't see that the world is waking up to this reality. ~~~~~~~~~~ On Thursday night, a "peace" dinner was hosted for Ahmadinejad by a number of religious groups, at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. The title of the evening -- “Has Not One God Created Us? The Significance of Religious Contributions to Peace” -- reflects that confidence that at heart we are all the same, and the sponsors of the event were all left-wing groups: American Friends Service Committee, the Mennonite Central Committee, the Quaker United Nations Office, Religions for Peace and the World Council of Churches – United Nations Liaison Office. It is my understanding that one "new age" rabbi was also present. These people are more than simply deluded, they do damage when they give credence to Ahmadinejad and enhance his stature. What is heartening is that over 60 different groups rallied against this dinner; their stated mission was to deny the regime in Iran false legitimacy. While there were, of course, Jewish groups such as ZOA and AFSI represented, a good number of those participating were not Jewish. There were, for example, the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem and Christian Solidarity International. But also Muslim (and even Iranian) groups such as: Stop Shariah Now and Alliance of Iranian Women. Participating with them was Aryeh Eldad, Israeli Member of Knesset (NU/NRP). ~~~~~~~~~~ Inside, at the dinner, one of the speakers in addition to Ahmadinejad was Miguel D'Escoto Brockmann, former Nicaraguan foreign affairs minister, who is now president of the General Assembly of the UN. This is not a complete surprise. After Ahmadinejad gave his speech to the General Assembly, Brockmann had warmly embraced him. David Ben Gurion is famous for having referred to the UN contemptuously as "oom, shmoom" (oom being a short-hand for UN in Hebrew). He doesn't know how right he was. Iran -- this is not a typo -- may soon be elected for a term on the Security Council, as a seat for an Asian country will open up in January. "Absurd" is what Livni called this prospect. Of course, it's probably no more absurd than the reported decision of Secretary-General Moon to demand that Israel pay $1 billion in damages to Lebanon for the 2006 war. Or the discussion in the Security Council -- requested by the Arab League -- regarding growth of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. And we've still got Durban II -- Heaven help us! -- coming down the road. ~~~~~~~~~~see my website www.ArlenefromIsrael.info

Israel is the "Melting Pot" of the Middle East. Some come to Israel to embrace it, just like they should the United States, but others come to destroy it, just like the United States. Before Israel, most of Israel was barren! Now that it has bloomed, the Arab people want it. It has been paid for by blood, sweat, and tears.
I wonder what this Obama person and who he really represents!!! He makes so many promises, reaching the unemployed, the ones with no health benefits. NO President can impliment all the programs that he talks about by himself. Have the American people forgot about "Checks and Balances!"
Israel is this country's best ally in the Middle East, and I think that us Americans do not give her enough credit for fighting terrorists every day of her life. If we here in America were to impliment the draft, like Israel has, Canada would be full of young American men and women running from it.
We NEED a STRONG MAN/WOMAN in the White House who has experience and will support Israel, we DO NOT need some smooth fancy schmancy talker.
I think John McCain knows the importance of a free Israel.

for Rod - To say that the Democrats want a welfare state" is such an outlandish accusation. Democratic Americans do not want a welfare state any more than any other Americans.. Remember Clinton cut welfare. I cannot believe how uninformed the people who post on this site are.
Isn't what Bush wants to do in the so called "bail-out" is give welfare to Wall Street in one aspect? LOL people. Wake-up people you are believing the delusion that your pocket book is going to be robbed more than it already is and be voting based on fear rather than common sense. This is not a perfect world and neither party has all the perfect answers.
Having said that I am voting for Obama and praying he will be able to help produce a new way of doing things in gov. where tax changes can be made that are really fair and common sense has a chance instead of the old hard line Republican nonsense that got us into this mess. Not all the Rep ideas are bad, in my opinion and not all the Dem ideas perfect; However, the Dems are the more compassionate and in my view are the most like the man Christian's worship. The Jesus who really cared for people and judged no one and extended forgiveness and compassion for those who made mistakes and where down and out. He was making it possible for them to be able to turn their life around. You preach love on one hand, yet are so afraid the poor are going to rob you by welfare on the other! I no comprehend your logic.

Chana, your post hits the mark. Has the world been asleep for the last 8 years? If one can (without hesitation)stand up and say that they loved the Bush administration and that it did wonderful things for America, then with good conscious they should vote for McCain, because that's their belief. The fact is that McCain's plan is to continue the tenets of the Bush admin. and many of its policies including continuing our involvement in Iraq. People are blocking out that fact and other facts in their minds simply because they cannot bring themselves to vote for an African American whether they want to admit it or not. So they try to find anything to convince themselves that Obama won't make a good president, and with limited facts they site ridiculous statements such as.."I don't trust him (that's a real laugh), he's not experienced, his a racist, a Muslim, etc., etc." Message to all: Believe what you want, but ask yourself what's behind the motivation. If it is race, be responsible enough to admit it; that's certainly your prerogative. If it's truly not, then I hope your decision is based on facts and not fiction. Let's put real thinking and strategy back into the White House so hopefully we can get out of the financial dilemma that this war has caused.

As point of clarification to Rod....

On Clinton and welfare reform, it was the Republican Congress led by Newt Gingrich that forced Clinton to sign a Comprehensive Welfare Reform legislation.

On Obama, he clearly is a rookie. Hoping and wishful thinking don't are fall far short of leading the free world. The Arab world is deadly serious about taking out the infidels. It is foolhardy to think anything else.

According to my beautiful wife, most Jewish people support Democrats/Obama for reasons that are beyond me. I know the Democratic party sanctioned Israel as a state under Truman, but this isn't the old Democratic party that once was. Now the Republicans are more for defense and the support of Israel and more understanding of the state of Israel taking a stand on defending itself from the attacks from the Muslim world. It is the Democrats that chastise Israel to restrain itself in it's defense, not the Republicans. Obama is for more of the same including sitting down and talking to the leaders of Iran which should in and of itself outrage anyone who is pro-Israel.

The Jewish people, if they are thinking clearly, could not possible be for Obama. It has always been my observation that the Jewish people honor life (anti-abortion), that they know what destroyed Sodom and that Yahweh created WOMAN for man. and I can't believe that they would be for a one world government. Besides, on the eve of Rosh Hashannah, (I believe that Christ will return for His people during that season), it may not matter to Christians who wins the election....for He could come this year. But we love our Jewish friends, and are most concerned for their welfare should this be the time. Think carefully friends, Obama is dangerous. Forget political parties, vote the way our God leads us.

Dear Doris Ransom,

The basic value of a republic is liberty including the freedom to be ignorant.

You are projecting your own beliefs onto Jews without regard to what all Jews know to be the immutable law of G-d: 2 Jews 3 opinions.

Matt

How is sitting down to converse with any leader (specifically Iran) bad for anyone? Beats some of the worse alternatives and Obama may be able to get an edge into cultivating a working relationship between any of the Arab nations and Israel. It has to be tried, at the very least, as opposed to further deteriorating the already stressed relationships by using fear-mongering and elitism. That is not the way of the Democratic party and it is not the way of Barack Obama.

I would be interested to see what people to consider an alternative to helping diffuse the situation and address Iran's nuclear intentions without turning to direct diplomacy. Stomping our feet, imposing sanctions, and trying to bully them will not work. Sorry but this time we can't take our ball and go home. Have we learned nothing from the past 5,000 years of conflict in this region?

P.S. There is a huge difference between honoring life and being anti-abortion, and to suggest otherwise is not only ignorant and irresponsible, but disrespectful and insulting to those who think for themselves. Whether you believe in abortion or not is for you to decide for yourself and not for everyone else. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. We are all entitled to it.

If I leave politics aside and vote with my spirituality; I must choose the person who has faithfully stood by his moral convictions and acted in accordance with his own virtuous beliefs and the True nature of the American Spirit. That man has only one home. He speaks with conviction and honours his fortunate life.

Scott R.

"He is obviously a socialist/communist. Need to say more?"

Do any of the people who say that know what a real communist or socialist is.

George W. Bush, the great Republican, bailing out Wall Street, is engaging in socialism. How could Obama possibly be worse than Bush?

Most Jews do not vote Republican, because for us, they are the Christian and many of us do not see it in our self-interests to side with conservative Christians - ever.

Responding to another post:

1) Jews are not always against abortion. And in that way, we are "pro life".

2) Sodom etc. were not destroyed because of homosexuality. At least not when we read about it in the original Hebrew.

And, btw, I'm a different Scott as the one above - not that I see anything to disagree about.

Samuel Adelman
October 2, 2008 5:39 AM

The last Republican to win a plurality of the Jewish vote was Warren G. Harding in 1920...and that was because 39% of Jews voted for Eugene Debs, the Socialist. The Jewish vote has always gone overwhelmingly to the Democratic Party.

It extremely presumptive of anyone to tell us how we should vote. McCain's antagonistic and bellicose foreign policy stance would put Israel at greater risk. The fact that he picked Sarah Palin, a fundamentalist Christian with zero foreign policy credentials, should lead anyone to question his commitment to national security.

"The Jewish people, if they are thinking clearly, could not possible be for Obama. It has always been my observation that the Jewish people honor life (anti-abortion)."

Your "observation" is wrong. Reform, Reconstructionist, and Conservative authorities are pro-choice, as are some Orthodox authorities. They believe it is a personal choice. Also, a majority of Israeli Jews identify as secular or nonreligious. And frankly, most Jews would not take well to your assertion that Jesus is going to return. We don't believe that he is the Messiah.
