Maybe you don’t have any trouble with your thoughts, but I do. Thoughts pop into my mind without my permission faster than a mosquito bites my skin on a sweltering summer afternoon. And, equally without my permission. Descartes, father of [...]
Dr. Steve McSwain is an award-winning author, speaker, and spiritual teacher. His books, blogs, and talks on spirituality have endeared him to thousands world wide. Raised by Baptist parents in a strict Christian home, Steve followed in his father's footsteps and became a highly successful minister. By his mid-thirties, he was already senior minister in one of the largest congregations in the south. He had attained all the outward symbols of ministerial success. But inside, Steve was not at peace. The "We're Right! You're Wrong!" mentality - so typical of religious fundamentalism -- bothered him the most. It took the sudden death of his father, however, before a personal crisis erupted in Steve's soul. He explains, "All the questions about my faith I had buried for years came to the surface of consciousness with the crisis evoked by my father's death." Questions like "Who am I?" "Why am I here?" "Is spirituality just believing in the 'right' stuff?" "And, how do we know what we believe is right, anyway?" "What about other religions?" Steve decided to leave the pastoral ministry to find himself...to connect with Source…to discover and live an authentic spiritual life. One afternoon an inner, spiritual awakening occurred. Just as unexpected as his father's passing, Steve says, "I just woke up. I'm not sure what to make of it. But my search ended…an ineffable presence and peace came over me and nothing has ever been the same since." Today, Dr. McSwain is a popular spiritual teacher, sharing his remarkable story of spiritual enlightenment through his blogs, books and talks. A Christian by faith, he's also a student of Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and a practitioner of other traditions. When asked by those in his faith tradition, "How can you be a Christian but embrace other religions?" Dr. McSwain responds by quoting Mother Teresa of Calcutta. When similarly questioned, Mother Teresa responded, "I love all religions. But I'm IN LOVE with my own." Dr. McSwain is the author of The Enoch Factor: The Sacred Art of Knowing God - chosen at the Global Book Expo in NYC as a finalist for "Most Inspirational Book of the Year." He and his wife, Pam, are the proud parents of four children and an increasing number of grandchildren. They make their home in Louisville, Kentucky.

I was born with a “W H Y” chromosome which is why I’ve been asking questions all my life. Unfortunately, many religious people are threatened whenever you question faith. But, my own opinion is, until you question your faith, you [...]
The Dalai Lama is coming to Louisville this Sunday. I was thinking the other day, “It’s about time. After all, I visited his part of the world for the first time when I was but fourteen.” It’s true. It was [...]
