I don’t always bound out of bed with grand expectations about the day ahead, but when I can hear my grandmother saying, “This is a day the Lord has made: I will rejoice and be glad in it,” it helps. And when I get up at the early side of morning instead of the snooze-alarm side, ah, what a difference!
1. It stretches out the morning. You could even see it as a way of living longer.
2. There’s no excuse not to meditate.
3. Or go to the gym.
4. You’ll be sure and make your bed before you leave the house. Just remembering that you did that gives you a better day.
5. There’s time for a real breakfast.
6. You get to see your city or town when it’s fresh and new—just you and the street cleaners and the paperboys
7. You don’t have to rush to get to work.
8. You can get to your desk with time to spare to straighten things up a bit, check personal email, and maybe start the coffee so the person who usually does that gets a pass.
9. You’re starting your day in rhythm with nature. According to the time-honored Indian healing system of Ayurveda, there’s a wake-up energy in the early morning from 5:30 to 7 o’clock or so, and a slow-down-and-help-you-sleep energy from 9 to 10:30 at night.
10. You join forces with giants. The bulk of great thinkers past and present were early risers. They didn’t miss anything the day had to offer. Get up with them and you won’t miss anything either.

Thank you for this. I start a new job this week after 4 months of unemployment and am nervous about getting up early again (though I’m grateful I found a job). This makes it seem a bit more lovely.

This is so timely for me! I got up early (for me, 7:00)this morning, as usual. I’m in Orlando, FL soaking up sunshine and the ducks in the pond outside woke me early this morning. I’ve always loved early morning. I’m a retired teacher, and when working I got up at 4:45 AM to have time before school for a morning walk and breakfast. It always made the day better.

Thank you both (Karin and Jeanine) for commenting on this post. I was up early this morning and have totally enjoyed this day. I feel that I got all of it, every minutes, no complaints. I’m going to rest a little before dinner and get ready to teach my teleclass at 8:30. After that it will be time to sleep again and get up early tomorrow. May you (and everyone reading) have a lovely day. And congrats on the new job, Karin: they’re lucky to have found you!

I am not a happy early riser but I do like to get up before everyone else and sit outside and watch the sunrise…I surprised my kids and woke up early and drove them down to the beach to watch the sunrise …it was magical…smiles

Great reinforcement. I’ve been an early riser since I was 16 years old.
Nothing positive happens after midnight. Gotta get to bed early.

I started getting up early in the morning, after I came into recovery. Instead of going to bed at 5 am, sometimes days later, I now get up at 5 every morning and read the inspirational info this site offers. I can’t express enough how grateful I am that I found this site, with Gods help. I now depend on reading this among other good habits each and every morning.
Thank-you very much.

Hi
Yes you are right.. The wake up energy at 5:00 to 6:00 AM each morning is due to the extra oxygen (Ozone)in the air.
Cheers
Aj

I find PEACE with myself and God early in the morning. I’ve been getting up between 5:00 and 6:00am for over 25 years now, but I am heading towards the bedroom around 8:30pm to 9:30pm everynight. I beleive that God wakes me up for his new day in store for me.

I have been getting up early as a young child. I would make my Mom’s lunch, coffee and see her off to work by 5 AM. Then I would wake my brothers and sisters up for school.
I have worked most of the same hours as she did, so it was not a problem for me to rise early.
At this time I sleep a lot because of the chemo and I hate it. It seems like I wasted a day or even hours. I still am out and climb up a hill to feed 25-30 stray cats. Usually by 5 AM. Use to feed them by my patio, but someone unhappy with their life complained and I had to stop that. It was so much easier. But who said life was easy.

I have always been an early riser being raised on a dairy farm. Now that I am much older I still do it. I love the summers here in the Rockies – get a cup of coffee/tea and my dogs and I head out to the deck sit on the swing and “watch our world come alive”. It is awesome to hear the earth wake up – the birds, deer, elk, chipmunks and squirrels – in the distant the creek. Boy life is great when you awake early.

I am not an early bird… I know the advantages , still dificult to do… – However when I have to travel I like it , but for the day and the time only. Some people simple are designed differently or grew up differently…
Suzi ,
Advice with your chemo. To feel better drink mixture of orange juice and beetroot juice or pomegranate juice. The best is Wonderful Pom.
Depending on your stomac the very best is pure clean juicy beef steak – if you can digest it.. It helps if you can sing to yourself.. it is a holistic approach… and very effective
Love

Suzi,
I agree with you. It sounds wonderful to get up at the crack of dawn but I’m a night owl. On occasion I have to get up early and it does feel like I get more out of the day, but I can’t do it on a regular basis. I never go to bed before midnight and then sleep until 9:00am or so. I’ve been laid-off for 6 months now so sometimes I don’t go to bed until 2am. But even if I go to bed early, I just can’t sleep. I wish I could re-train my body to be a morning person but it just doesn’t want to cooperate.

I don’t know how to get up early. I push the snooze without realizing I am even doing it. Give me some tips please because I would love to get up an hour or two before I have to be to work.

I LIKE #10, UNFORTUNATLY I START MY DAY @ 10P.M. AND IT DOESN’T END UNTIL 6A.M.

Iget up early everyday. I do beleive everyday is a gift. It may look bleak or rosy yet you can see it at its start.

When I had to be at work at 6am, I made myself get up extra early and prepared myself the night before. Unfortunately, I am a night owl. That’s my body’s natural rhythm.

Am also my best @ night. Coffee, even though mostly decaff, doesn’t help, although Melatonin helps get me groggy enough to get to bed earlier than 2 AM. Reasons #5 (breakfast) and #7(no rush to work/starting the day) do strike a chord w/me.
