30 days to a charmed life Day 12: up the class quotient

posted by Victoria Moran | 5:05pm Wednesday October 21, 2009

LIfe feels better with a touch of class: the good dishes, a commemorative stamp, something that smells good in the bath water. This doesn’t have to be expensive, just consistent. You want enough touches of class in your life every day that you feel your life itself elevate in the areas of graciousness, elegance, and style.

Ways to do this simply:
  • Don’t go out unless you look good. Even to the 7/11
  • Write thank-you notes
  • Bring in fresh flowers or buy a bouquet at the market
  • Prepare a meal from scratch
  • Wear a piece of heirloom jewelry
  • Keep things picked up and in order
  • Be gracious when you want to be snippy
  • Keep a classy role model in mind — Audrey is always nice….

Tomorrow is my swan song ...
Hi, friends -- I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I would be giving up this blog at the end of my contract period. It's not an easy parting, since I look forward to our chats, but I haven't been able to figure out how to blog every day, have something worth reading every day, and still keep enou

Preparing for Christmas
I took a class on mysticism the other night at The NY Open Center. The instructor was Jon Mundy, Ph.D., who publishes Miracles magazine. He had copies available -- it's wonderful -- and one tiny article caught my eye. I reproduce it here for your Yuletide pondering:Did You Know?from Miracles, N

Peace on Earth ... but maybe not quiet ...
I just visited The Writers Room. It is a wonderful place where serious writers write lots and lots of real books: the evidence is on shelves when you walk in. I'm grateful that three professional contacts wrote me glowing recommendations and thrilled that I've been invited to join. But I don't think

Do You Use the Guest Towels? -- a guest blog from Elizabeth Grant
Do You Use the Guest Towels?  by Elizabeth A. Grant One of the greatest obstacles I see with clients is that people have trouble valuing themselves highly. Somewhere along the line, they took on a belief that they aren't worth much. A friend of mine is an artist, and she's really struggling wit

I wonder what it says about us that there was only one comment yesterday on this post. Are we reluctant to take care of ourselves in this way? It can’t just be the cost. At least three of the suggestions, four if you hand deliver instead of mail the “thank you,” cost nothing. And making a meal from scratch does not have to cost more than a “not from scratch” meal. We can do this!

Even though this idea of ‘pampering yourself’ is common, not many people give it due importance. Simple ways can make life more interesting – we should add few more pointers to the list.

It makes me sad that so many people can’t bother to look good. It’s a gift to everyone you encounter! I’ve been accused of being superficial for always trying to look nice and I think it’s sad. I don’t take that much time or spend much money, but I am clean, ironed and well put-together most of the time.
