Britney Spears’ mom releases memoir with Christian publisher Thomas Nelson

As we’ve been talking a bit this week about Britney Spears and a bit of news I found that said she started as a Christian singer, I also found out that her mom’s book comes out next week. The book, which was originally titled Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, was supposed to be released this past May by Christian publisher Thomas Nelson. When the media broke the story about Jamie Lynne’s pregnancy last December, Thomas Nelson delayed the book’s release. In a press release from last December 20, 2007, Michael S. Hyatt, president and CEO of Thomas Nelson said: “From the onset, the media have inaccurately reported that Lynne Spears’ book is a parenting book. I’m sure this helps fuel tabloid readership, but it is simply not true. Lynne’s memoir will provide a window into the real-life world of fame and worldly success, including the toll it extracts from some who aspire to it. It will provide a much-needed corrective to a world obsessed with the wrong priorities.”I remember at the time being surprised that a Christian publisher was releasing the book and was looking forward to learning more about the Spears family’s spiritual background. A Christian publisher like Nelson wouldn’t put out a book that didn’t have a strong Christian message. The book has been retitled, Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World. The promotional summary reads:

Through the Storm takes readers outside the narrow orbit of the Hollywood glitterati. Lynne shares how fame forever changed their family; her regrets letting managers, agents, and record companies direct the lives of her children; the challenges that shaped Lynne and Jamie’s failed marriage and how they affected Bryan, Britney, and Jamie Lynn; the startling events that led to Britney’s breakdown; the aftermath of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy; and how the family has tried pulling together to recapture a sense of hope and purpose. Through the Storm, says Lynne, is “the story of one simple Southern woman whose family got caught in a tornado called fame, and who is still trying to sort through the debris scattered all over her life in the aftermath. It’s who I am, warts and all, with some true confessions that took a long time to get up the nerve to discuss.”

The book is written by Lynne Spears with Lorilee Craker and releases next week. I’m waiting for my review copy, and I’ll have more for you then! Can’t wait for the book? Here’s a video preview:RELATED POSTWas Britney Spears a Christian singer?

It seems to me that if this woman was any kind of mother, she wouldn’t cash in on her family by airing their dirty laundry in public with a “tell all” book. Like these kids haven’t been through enough already. She’s got nerve, I’ll say that much.

I wouldn’t be too quick to judge someone else’s motives. “Man looks on the outward appearance, but God knows the heart”. Just a thought from someone who, myself, is often quick to judge.

Seems to be a bit premature to comment on the content of a book that has not been released yet! Memoirs and “tell all” books are two very different things.
