Downhere, Starfield, Article One Nominated For Juno Awards

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 8:54am Thursday February 5, 2009

Dowhere.jpgThe nominations for the Juno Awards were announced this week and downhere (pictured), Starfield, NewWorldSon, Article One, and Life Support were nominated for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album Of The Year.
The Juno Awards are the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys. The awards will be handed out in Vancouver, British Columbia on March 20. The show will be broadcast live on CTV, and feature performances by Sarah McLauchlan, Nickelback, Simple Plan.
I’m a huge, longtime fan of downhere and Starfield and a new fan of Article One and NewWorldSon. I’ve never heard Life Support, but their clip on the Juno site is really good.
What I love is that these bands are great examples of actual Christian musicians, embodying the spirit of both the art and the faith beautifully. (Check out our discussion about how to define Christian music for more.)

I hope NewWorldSon wins a Juno– I enjoyed their CD and the band is also amazing live in concert. I can’t wait to see them at Kingdom Bound Christian music festival in Darien Center, NY this August!

And the winner is … downhere! Impressive really, 4 albums to date and a Juno for 3 of them. Certainly the most under-rated band in Christian music today. Congratulations gentlemen!
