Oh My … more bad news for those (34% of Americans) who are obese.
In a study released by researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine scientists found that overweight people emit more carbon emissions than slim people, because they consume more food and fuel.
The study pointed a finger at the increased demand for livestock production for meat. Cows emit toxic methane. The research also sited higher dependency on cars as a contributing factor.
The authors of this report, Phil Edwards and Ian Roberts, said: “When it comes to food consumption, moving about in a heavy body is like driving around in a gas guzzler.
“The heavier our bodies become the harder and more unpleasant it is to move about in them and the more dependent we become on our cars.”
As I read this information, it seemed clear to me that the global warming blamed on obese people is overwhelmingly a by-product of more meat (toxic methane) and the increased use of cars (carbon emissions).
So let’s be clear to not blame ‘fat’ people, once again. Let’s agree that it’s a good idea to eat less meat, drive less and move more and reverse global warming and obesity trends.
After all, slim people eat meat and drive, too.

OMG …
That “study” was made by scientist?!!
OMG!!!
This makes me SOOOOO ANGRY I can’t even form a scathing comment!!!!!

Heck cows have been around for years and now they want to blame them. It has to be what we are feeding them. And I agree with the lady with the last comment, it makes me mad that they are trying to blame obese people of causing more global warming. What about obese people that don’t have an extra car to drive each day? Put the blame on what it should be-pollution from factories, emissions from cars, etc. Some obese people have a medical condition that cause them to be obese-not from what they eat. I think that they need to revaluate their study and really see where the problem of global warming is coming from and what we can do to eliminate it.

I can’t believe our taxes are used to pay stupid people coming with this simple 2+2=4 equation…
Is that what research is all about nowadays?
Counting cows farts?
I am overweight, I don’t drive and I don’t eat more than once a day…
How about putting the blame on the real fat cats or pigs who ruined our economy?
I really doubt a 20-stone poor Detroit worker driving a toyota does more harm to the planet than a rich fit boy driving a hummer, bentley, private jet or whatever he fancies…
How about greaseboarding?
Gimme a break for fat’s sake!

The problem with this report is that it is all based on a false premise: this IS NO man-made global warming! Don’t reports like this just show how scientists are grasping at straws to prove a theory our politicians want to hear so they can jam more regulations down our throats?

I have a novel theory: What if global warming is really caused by fluctuations in sun spots, sun flares, and ocean temperatures, and has operated in cycles ever since the crust of the earth was formed? What if it has nothing to do with cow flatulance, fat people, or fossil fuels? Wow, what a novel theory! That would actually mean that we can only blame it on things over which mankind has no control whatsoever, and then maybe the freakin’ enviro-Nazis and their Fuhrer Al Gore can leave the rest of us the heck alone!!

Anybody who consumes food that is not from their own garden is contributing to global warming. For instance, costs of transportation of supermarket veggies from California or Mexico to New England are significant. If someone is 20% overweight that means 20% more food has to be transported to the 30 to 40% of the population that is obese. Factor in petroleum derived fertilizer, water that has to be pumped and sprinkled, etc and one can make a strong case about obesity’s effect on global warming. But you can also make the case for meat eaters contributing to global warming. Not only do cattle produce methane they also use ten times as much grain per pound compared to direct grain consumption by humans. Then consider all the production and transportation costs of delivering the meat to market and it becomes clear that meat eaters are far more significant in terms of global warming. But in the long run you have to look at a multitude of causes for global warming, although consumption habits are a significant factor.

Okay, first of all it’s CLIMATE CHANGE. We can’t call it global warming because when the climate begins to cool (and it will) we’re going to look like a bunch of idiots. If we want to have any hope of shoving our anti-business, quasi-socialist agenda down the throats of unsuspecting citizens, we have to couch it in the most obtuse terms possible. So, please, CLIMATE CHANGE.
That said, I’m sure we can count on our bloated, over-sized, over-reaching federal Government to concoct some invasive, freedom suppressing law to deal with the “problem”. I think a cap and trade system for your fat cells would be a great idea. You buy fat credits from the government and if you stay thin you can sell your fat credits to wealthy fat slobs.
Frankly given all of the research that’s been coming out on “climate change”, I’m surprised that anyone takes the notion of anthropogenic warming seriously.
