Liquid Calories: Evil, Alluring and Dangerous

posted by Janice Taylor, Editor | 9:30am Thursday May 14, 2009

As you head off into the summer sun and begin to thirst for a nice, tall, cool drink, sporting an umbrella or not … consider this!!!
Researchers recently found that ‘liquid calories’ pose more of a threat to dieters than real food! According to the MSNBC report:
“Among beverages, sugar-sweetened beverages was the only beverage type significantly associated with weight change at both the 6- and 18-month follow up periods,” said Dr. Liwei Chen, lead author of the study and an epidemiologist at Louisiana State University’s School of Public Health.
“Our study supports policy recommendations and public health efforts to reduce intakes of liquid calories, particularly from sugar-sweetened beverages, in the general population,” she said.

What does that mean? It means that if you want to permanently remove your excess weight, you need to steer clear of soft drinks and soda, as well as fruit drinks, fruit punch – any and all beverages that are sweetened with sugar – and limit your intake of diet drinks, milk (whole or otherwise), 100% fruit and/or vegetable juice, coffee, tea with sugar or without and certainly alcoholic beverages.

Think about it! If you were to ingest even one sugary drink, i.e. a 20-ounce bottle of cola at 250 calories, daily for two weeks, you would gain 1 pound. In addition, to excess layers of unwanted adipose tissue (a.k.a. fat), you are increasing your chances of developing diabetes, damaging your kidneys and goodness knows what else!
Do “It” for Your Body! If you can’t give up sugary drinks for yourself, do it for your body. Just imagine the sugared journey through-out your body and mind and the damage it’s leaving in its wake.
