Lose a pound: Manifest a 4-pound reduction!

ART feather nails.jpgHere’s a riddle from Our Lady of Weight Loss, the patron saint of permanent fat removal!
Which weighs more?
A pound of feathers; or a pound of nails?

A pound is a pound, folks!
Unless, of course, you’re talking about your knees!
A recent study that highlights research done at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, published in the journal Arthritis & Rheumatism, found that for overweight or obese adults with osteoarthritis of the knee, losing a pound could result in a 4-pound reduction in pressure placed on the knee joint.
“Our results indicate that each pound of weight lost will result in a 4-fold reduction in the load exerted on the knee per step during daily activities,” wrote lead researcher Dr. Stephen P. Messier with his colleagues. “Accumulated over thousands of steps per day, a reduction of this magnitude would appear to be clinically meaningful.
“The accumulated reduction in knee load for a 1-pound loss in weight would be more than 4,800 pounds per mile walked,” noted Messier in a press release. “For people losing 10 pounds, each knee would be subjected to 48,000 pounds less in compressive load per mile walked.”
Food for Thought:
There you have it! Imagine just for a moment, osteoarthritis or not, just how much pressure that excess weight that you are carrying around is putting on your knees!
If you can’t lose weight for yourself, do it for your body!
More food for thought:
How to STOP!!!! Eating.
Quiz: Are YOU a food addict?
What if weight loss were no longer an issue?
